Pavillion House

Having lived on site for 15 years, Julianne’s family had begun to outgrow their beloved post-war home. Collaborating with Sheri Haby Architects, she designed a respectful renovation and rear addition, introducing a new living area with enhanced connection to the outdoors, full of bespoke detail and abundant natural light. 

Shared Spaces

A connective family lifestyle is encouraged through shared space, with an additional retreat and entertainment area sprawling out through sliding stacker doors to the courtyard and pool. This second living space enables young teens to entertain and leisure separately from home into adulthood, while new study enables productivity, study or work, from home. Intended as a forever home, interiors are set on a single level rather than extended upward, with spaces well suited to ageing in place.

Meaningful Moments

Contemporary spaces are composed of thoughtful detail: treasured furniture, art and lighting by local makers sit comfortably among timeworn family pieces, with couches custom designed by The Den Interiors. Julianne’s happy place is the laundry, featuring pink-washed oak cabinetry – an unexpectedly joyful finish that the talented cabinet maker, with a background in fine arts, wanted to experiment with.

Subtly Sustainable

Environmental consciousness is embedded throughout the project, embodying Julianne’s professional approach to design. The north-facing extension ushers sunlight into the previously underlit home, while double brick cladding recycled from demolitions on site, double glazing and cross-flow ventilation all help minimise energy costs.
